Both versions offer exactly the same functionality. They allow to import tabular data from eg. Excel sheets directly into IBM Cognos Insight by drag and drop. The data immediately shows up in a workspace area where users can analyze and visualize their data.

A TM1 application is a collection of shortcuts to TM1 objects, files, URL's and Excel files organized into format related groups. Excel files that are published on the web are also listed in the applications folder. An application folder consists out of TM1 objects like cubes, cube views, subsets and chores. File references are shortcuts to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word or PDF files.
